Downloading directly: about the browser warning

Updated 14 October 2026

A browser may warn you when you download PortalCal for Windows. Here is why, and what to press.

PortalCal is digitally signed by CcsSync LLC, but browsers treat any program that has not yet been downloaded many thousands of times with caution. If you download directly:

  1. Microsoft Edge: open the downloads list, choose the … menu on the file, and pick Keep. If a second box asks you to confirm, the button you want is inside the small arrow next to Delete — open it and choose Keep anyway.
  2. Google Chrome says the file “may be dangerous” and offers Download suspicious file. That is the one that keeps it — Chrome calls anything it has not seen often “suspicious”.
  3. If the file disappears from Downloads on its own, a browser security add-on has removed it. McAfee WebAdvisor and Norton Safe Web come preinstalled on many PCs and do this to newly published software. Switch them off on your browser's Extensions page, download again, then switch them back on.

On a Mac there is no such step: PortalCal for Mac is notarised by Apple and opens with a single confirmation.
